About Us

The Dower House is a modern building, designed and built to make life comfortable, secure and friendly for all those who find they need the support of a nursing home.

The Dower House, one mile from Winchester, is set in 5½ acres of established landscaped grounds of mature trees, shrubs, borders and bulbs.

Adjacent is the unique retirement village of Headbourne Worthy House founded by Wing Commander and Mrs Lywood in 1968. Headbourne Worthy House is now owned by the individual residents and managed by Broadleaf Management Services Limited. Contact between Headbourne Worthy House Cottage residents and The Dower House is encouraged, and residents are welcome to join in the keep fit class, bridge, talks and lectures, occasional coffee mornings and afternoon tea.

The Dower House continues to be owned by Mrs Lywood who ensures the smooth running of the nursing home and grounds, and the welfare of the residents and staff.

During the past 15 years, people from many walks of life have chosen to live at The Dower House and have appreciated the high standard of care, exceptional facilities and unique atmosphere all encompassed in beautiful surroundings. Residents are able to retain their individuality and enjoy whatever level of independence they require, whilst safe in the knowledge that excellent nursing care is on hand.
